Win for Island Citroën Owners

I am delighted to announce that the first refunds for expenses incurred as a result of the Citroën stop-drive recalls have been issued to constituents in Na h-Eileanan an Iar.

I pressed the car giant into action after several constituents were left facing huge ferry and overnight bills to have their recalled cars repaired on the mainland. In July this year Stellantis UK, the company which owns Citroën, issued a safety recall for nearly 168,000 of its cars after an airbag exploded in France, killing the driver. Owners of some C3 and DS3 cars were being told not to drive their cars until the airbags are fixed. Island Citroën drivers faced an added expense trying to get their car to a registered Citroën repairer – there being none in the Western Isles.

Guidelines are clear that drivers are entitled to remedial work free of charge, however island drivers were facing high additional costs of 200-mile or more trips to the mainland including ferry and accommodation costs. This is over and above the risk of driving a car under a stop-drive notice which not only endangers lives, but also invalidates insurance, and risks fines and even driving bans.

“Island residents should not face discrimination when it comes to ensuring the safety of their vehicles, an assurance that most UK drivers enjoy for free.“

Following a letter to the managing director of Stellantis UK a line of dialogue was opened which has led to constituents in Na h-Eileanan an Iar receiving their first refunds for costs incurred.

If this has affected you or anyone you know, please don't hesitate to get in touch to see if I

can help in any way.
